Question: Hi! I’m bringing a new pug puppy home in 7-8 weeks and considering your hospital as our new vet. We were previously at Laurel Pet Hospital but that drive is prohibitive as we live in Studio City. Can you please let me know if you have a lot of pug experience and how soon we should make an appointment to come in once she comes home, along with what that first appointment would entail?
Answer: Congratulations on your new arrival! We see lots of brachycephalic breeds (Pugs, Boxers, Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs, etc…) here at Best Friends Animal Hospital. We recommend a first visit at 7-8 weeks of age. At that appointment, we will do a full examination of your pet, start vaccines, administer a dewormer, and collect a fecal sample to check for any of the less common intestinal parasites. We then recheck your pet every 3 weeks until he or she reaches 15-16 weeks, at which point we finish puppy vaccines. We hope yo meet you soon!
